Sci Fi Channel creating hybrid TV series and MMO

The Sci Fi Channel will create a TV show and a mmo game that are connected, what happens in the game will be written into the show.

This sounds very cool.

And from an economic point of view this, I believe, is one of the few ways a sci fi TV show can turn a profit. Because most people who watch sci fi shows have the know-how and ability to liberate TV shows directly from the net as soon as they are aired, so the makers earn very little from commercials and even less from re runs since people have the show on their computer they can watch it at any time. So there is no need to buy the dvds as well.

Hopefully this merger with the show leaching off the mmo profits will be fruitful and it will lead to a good quality show with excellent writers.
